Birch in Split Rock using Slap Zoom

This image was shot in the Split Rock State Park a few days ago. It was a 30 second exposure, after the sun had set, during which I SLOWLY turned the zoom barrel of the lens. I played with a number of different zoom speeds/effects but found this the most pleasing of the results. I would love to know your reaction to the image.

Cheers,

    Hi A,

Since you particularly encouraged us to give critical feedback in your most recent email, I wanted to go back to this photo. I particularly love birch trees, and I think they’re a perfect subject for your tendency to shoot a lot of b & w photos. However, this special effect that you added is not necessary. It feels like you’re trying too hard, when the photo would have been really beautiful without it. The shot seems otherworldly in sort of a Hallmark sense.

I hope that wasn’t too critical.
